6 Ways To Transition Your Décor From Summer To Fall

Nothing is more pleasing than transitioning your décor during the changing seasons. While summer is fun and vibrant, fall offers a mixture of textures, warm colors, sweet scents, and more. With this short list, you can completely transform your home into a lovely getaway.

Soften Your Lighting

Before you transform the space, the lighting in your home is most likely bright and natural because summertime offers so much sunshine. Take the lightbulbs out of the fixtures and replace them with a softer mood lighting. For the lamps where you cannot replace the bulb, move those to storage and place lighting that complements what you are about to do with the rest of the space.

Incorporate Plaid Patterns

Something that is a staple during the fall season is anything that has plaid on it. This could mean replacing the table runner in the dining room, hanging a new shower curtain, pulling out fresh dish towels, etc. If you’re feeling artsy, make a fall wreath fully equipped with plaid patterned fall ribbon to hang on your front door.

Add Soft Whites and Neutrals

Fall gives a relaxing, serene vibe, whereas summer encourages wanderlust and expression. Take out the flashy décor and reinstate the remaining pieces with soft whites and neutrals. The best thing about these colors is that they pair well with just about any other décor element you leave out year-round.

Add Small Autumnal Trifles

Small trifles around the house will really transition your summer décor into fall. Think pinecones, gourds, and pumpkins. Intertwine these elements along coffee tables or your mantel to enhance the fall atmosphere.

Layer Rugs

A quintessential aspect of fall is the warmth and coziness of being inside next to the fire. One way to transform your home into something warmer is to layer the rugs on your floor. Use the advice from before and try mixing a plaid pattern with something neutral on top.

Switch Out Throw Pillows and Blankets (and Add More)

Summer is hot and sticky, so you most likely only have one or two throw blankets on the couch. When the temperature starts to drop, you can start to add more pillows and blankets. Again, replace any of the vibrant blankets with a softer palette of colors.

There is no right or wrong time to do this—whenever you get sick of the summer accessories, switch them out for the fall ones. Add your own personality and style to the décor you switch out; pouring as much of yourself into your decorations will make your house feel more like home.
